Thank you
for your inquiry into the hunting opportunities we offer at Pusch Ridge
Outfitters. We are an Arizona based Outfitting business that outfits
and guides in New Mexico and
Mexico. We are proud of the
fact that we consistently produce trophies of the highest quality for our
clients. Several have qualified for the Boone and Crockett all-time
record book, as well as the Pope and Young, Safari Club International, and
Longhunter Society books. Your satisfaction is our utmost desire.
Our reputation and livelihood depend on your success.
WHERE WE HUNT:
The areas we hunt, in New Mexico and Mexico are
arguably the finest in the world for trophy potential in all the species we
offer. One quick look at any record book will confirm it. The
state Game and Fish agencies work hard to maintain both quantity and quality
in their herds.
Our areas in New Mexico and Mexico are privately owned
and allow us total control of the hunting pressure and harvest.
HOW WE HUNT:
Due to the vast openness of the country we hunt, our hunting methods are
totally spot and stalk. We establish certain strategic glassing spots,
in each area, where we spend most of our time. With the aid of high-powered
tripod mounted binoculars, we scan the countryside looking for the right
trophy.
MARKSMANSHIP:
Practice is
invaluable!
What distance will I be shooting? This is a question we are
often asked. Most animals we take are shot at 250 to 300 yards.
However, chances are that a 400 yard or farther shot will be the difference
in taking a nice trophy, or going home empty handed.
A one inch 3 shot group at 100 yards from a bench means nothing unless you
plan to carry a bench in the field with you. Also, we often hear my
rifle is shooting 3 inches high at 100 yards so it should be right on at 300
yards. This also means nothing. Ballistic charts in reloading
books are fun to read, but all rifles are different. We would much
rather see a target shot at 300 yards! This not only shows us that
they have indeed been practicing, but it also helps the client know what 300
yards in the field looks like.
We highly
recommend that hunters practice
shooting from field positions (i.e. sitting, kneeling, and standing). One
helpful aid that we would recommend is the use of a Harris model 25C-swivel
bipod. They can be invaluable in the field. But above all else,
we ask that you practice, practice, and practice!
CONDITIONING:
Hunters often ask us what they should do to get in condition. If
you will walk at a brisk pace, 30 minutes a day, every day for 4 weeks prior
to your hunt, you will be in fair shape. Make sure you wear your
hiking boots when walking. Two weeks before the hunt, put on your pack
with 25 pounds in it while walking.
Preparing for Coues Deer and Sheep hunts: Make
sure to do your walking in the steepest hills you can find. If the
area you live in is flat, find the tallest building and walk the stairs.
